I was thrown into a situation yesterday, where I had to hop in the car at lunchtime, drive across LA/OC, in order to get to Riverside for a meeting. During that trip, I had a lot of time to look at traffic, and how people behave in traffic.

First and foremost, you have the mobile roadblocks. The guys that go 65 MPH in the fast lane, even though the traffic is moving at 80 MPH. nevermind the fact that cars are streaming around him, cutting him off, people tailgating, etc. This is the guy that is completely oblivious (or simply immune) to external stimulants.

Then you have the guy that going 100MPH right up onto your bumper, even though it’s very very clear that there’s nowhere to move in front or around you. I guess this is the guy that thinks if you go fast enough, you can just phase though the cars/traffic.

And then the namesake of this post, the very curious. The people who cause traffic in the first place. The expectant stopper. This is the guy that sees a slight hill on the road. he doesn’t know if the traffic is slowing down on the other side, and rather than just maintaining speed, he slows down. This is often compounded by the fact that the car’s already slowing down from having to exert more energy just to climb the incline. These are also the people that see a pack of cars ahead of them, nevermind that the pack is moving at 75mph, this driver will slow down to 65mph just to create a gap between him and the pack of cars.

One of these days, it’d be nice to be able to talk to these people while they’re doing these things, and simply ask:

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU THINKING?

It’s one thing when you’re picking your nose in your car, thinking no one can see you, and suddenly look over to see the car next to you is full of teenagers, pointing and laughing at you.  That’s kinda embarrassing.

It is something else completely, though, to be engaged in conversation with someone, looking at them in the eye, and then see them reach up with a finger, and proceed to dig for gold right there in front of you.

What is the proper social etiquette for this (forgoing the obvious fact that the person you’re talking to has none to speak of). Does one keep eye contact, and pretend to not notice this? Or does one avert their eyes to signal that this is an awkward situation?

Instead of “caught with your hand in the cookie jar“, the catch phrase should be changed to “caught with your finger up yor nose“

Seriously. I spent the entire day in San Diego yesterday to get a set of Wal-Mart plans approved by the building and health department. This completely useless hag comes along, and sits in the corner and listens (I wonder if that’s what she bills for “being useless”).

So rather than her being useless, I tell her to go pay for the plan check fee for Wal-Mart, and to submit the McDonald’s drawings.

How the hell that translated to “pay for McDonalds which does not require payment, and Ignore Wal-Mart which does requirements” is completely beyond me, but that’s what she’s managed to do.

Simply amazing.

I don’t like cookies.

Stranger than Fiction, a great movie by all accounts. Why, of all the thought provoking aspects of the movie, do I focus on my apathy toward cookies?

I think it’s a plight to be different, to stand out among the crowd.

Why couldn’t I stand out by being illiterate though?

I think it’s about time I gave up my toys, and grew up. Time long past for me to rid myself of the motorcycles, the MR2′s, and set in motion the “responsible” part of the rest of my life.

At a tender age of 31, I am forced to wonder if I held onto those toys too long. Have they negatively impacted my game of life? How much time and resources have I squandered away to these little hobbies?

I’ve shunned from having a personal blog for such a long time, because it’s always seemed like a fad. Myspace, Facebook, etc, etc. I guess I just got to the point, where I want a place where I can throw ideas from my head, onto a trackable location. As much of a steel trap as my brain is, I simply don’t think I have the mental capacity to retain every tidbit from everyday life.

And there you have, the birth of Nuggets From the Right Lobe.
